Kathleen B. Colt
Kathleen is a graduate of Vanderbilt University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the English Honors Program. She earned her law degree from the University of Houston Law Center and was admitted to practice in Texas in 1999. Kathleen has been board certified in labor and employment law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 2005.
Kathleen began her legal career working as an associate for the law firm of Stumpf Craddock Massey & Farrimond, P.C., where she practiced primarily in the area of employment law, representing businesses of all sizes. Throughout her 11 years at the firm, Kathleen represented employers in litigation matters as well as in administrative proceedings with governmental agencies, such as the Department of Labor and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. She routinely counseled businesses on personnel issues, including workplace investigations, and conducted employee training seminars.
In 2009, Kathleen joined TBES, Inc., a Title IV-eligible institution of higher education, as its in-house counsel. During her first six years with TBES, Inc., Kathleen oversaw compliance and human resources matters, which included conducting and directing investigations and providing workplace training for employees. As in-house counsel for a Title IV institution, Kathleen gained expertise in Title IX, the federal law prohibiting sex-based discrimination in educational institutions that receive federal funding.
Kathleen was promoted to President of TBES, Inc., in 2015 and for the next eight years continued to ensure it maintained compliance with all applicable civil rights laws. In May 2023, TBES, Inc. was acquired by Genesis Career Group, Inc. For the next nine months, Kathleen worked as an Assistant General Counsel for the Texas A&M University System, where she provided legal guidance to human resources departments and campus leadership on employment matters. She rejoined Genesis Career Group, Inc., in January 2024 and served as General Counsel through December 2024.
Kathleen is a member of the State Bar of Texas Labor & Employment Section and the Houston Bar Association.
