Kim is a graduate of Texas Christian University (TCU). He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with an English minor. He attended law school at Tulane University before returning home to Houston where he earned his law degree from the University of Houston School of Law. Kim is a Member of the State Bar of Texas and was admitted to practice law in 1992.

Before focusing on human resources (HR) as a profession, Kim served as General Counsel for the pioneering label Rap-A-Lot Records. Kim joined Shell Chemical in 1997 as an HR Analyst and then worked as Director of Operations for Bashen Consulting where he conducted workplace investigations and trained and supervised investigators.

Kim worked for Continental Airlines initially as Manager of Diversity & Fair Employment Practices and then as Director Human Resources for the Corporate Division. While at Continental Airlines, Kim conducted complex investigations, managed EEO investigations conducted by others, developed and delivered investigations, EEO and HR compliance training all while serving as the EEO and HR compliance advisor for Continental's HR Generalists, Managers and Directors. He also represented Continental in external EEO and OFCCP matters.

Kim left Continental Airlines in 2006 and since that time has served in HR leadership roles for three Fortune 500 companies - Waste Management, Pentair and Emerson. In these leadership roles, Kim partnered with other executives, legal teams, labor leaders and HR teams to develop best practices and innovative solutions to accomplish breakthrough results. At Pentair, Kim served as the head of HR, L&D and Talent Acquisition for the Americas region (North America and Latin America). Additionally, Kim oversaw all HR compliance matters and workplace investigations for the Americas region.
